So…did anyone get Charlton Heston’s gun?
Just curious.
There are birds living in the exhaust vent of my fireplace. They’re noisy and irritating.
I also can’t use my fireplace now; not because I’m afraid of hurting the birds (nothing would give me greater pleasure than the aroma of freshly-cooked bird permeating my condo), but because I don’t want any nest material catching fire and burning the place down.
I’ve got a roll of poultry wire all set to go up and cover the exhaust vent. I just don’t have any means of getting up there. I need a really tall ladder, which is something I don’t have. Nor does anyone I know. I can’t just go out and buy one, because I don’ t have a vehicle capable of driving it home. Nor does anyone I know. Grr…such a stupid problem to have!
I’ve started the process of upgrading whitver.net - it’s now residing on a new server, with a fresh install of the operating system. I’ve also switched blogging tools, which is going to require a rewrite of the rest of the site. As such, the Calendar, Media, and Resumé are either MIA or funky-looking at the moment. I’m still figuring out the best way of bringing them back, as well as tinkering with the look of my site.
Fun times ahead!
Yeah, I’m still planning on updating whitver.net’s sites ‘n mail server ‘n all. As soon as work calms down a bit (which should be, oh, October or so), I’ll give this site and server the attention it deserves.
Y’know…some people use their blogs to actually, say, communicate important (or at least semi-important) things to friends and family - I suppose one of these years I should start doing that, too, neh?
Mac OS X Server 10.4 is out, and it includes a lot of changes that will be beneficial for whitver.net users–the big one being built-in spam/virus filters! It also has a built-in weblog engine, which will allow me to easily give a weblog to any user that wants one.
I haven’t decided yet if I’m going to convert my site to use the new engine (Blojsom) or leave it on Movable Type. It is time for a visual makeover on my site (making your web site look like an operating system is so 2001!), so now would be a good time to migrate over to a new ‘blog engine. On the other hand, making visual changes to Apple’s implementation of Blojsom looks to be kinda difficult. So I’ll have to give that some thought.
At any rate, the upgrade to 10.4 will probably involve some downtime, but hopefully not too much. I’ll keep you posted (since I know you’re all supremely interested ‘n all).
Even though I’ve been posting new picture updates on the main page here, the index of the Media section hasn’t been updated in quite awhile. I went ahead and took care of that today, updating it with all the albums I’ve posted over the last year or so (which only amounted to about 5, but still…).
I’ve also had numerous people ask me about concerto updates. Well, the fact is that I’ve been struggling with a couple things on that front. First, I’ve had an enormous case of writer’s block. I’ve had plenty of good ideas, but never when I’m in a position to get them written down. Second, my workspace wasn’t very conducive to composition - in order to get any real work done, I need to have simultaneous access to my computer and music keyboards, but the size of my synthesizer and the shape of my desk just doesn’t allow that. So I recently went out to the Jordan Creek Apple Store and got an M-Audio Keystation 61es. It’s basically just a keyboard, with nothing else in it but a USB connection. Because it doesn’t do any sound generation, it doesn’t need much for circuitry or any speakers, so it’s pretty small. As such, it fits nicely on my desk and should allow me to get some real work done. As soon as I have a good idea when I’m at home.
